Corrective Lenses and Policy Update
In the last two months, we have had three drivers cited during a roadside inspection for not wearing their corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses) while driving. In each case, the driver was placed out of service. This violation carries 30 time-weighted CSA points for the driver and the company.
Wearing corrective lenses when required by either your Medical Examiner’s Certificate or by a restriction on your CDL is common sense. You must be able to see clearly to safely operate your truck. As a policy change, drivers that fail to wear corrective lenses when driving will have their employment or contract, as appropriate, terminated.
If your vision has changed or improved since your last physical or CDL renewal because you have had Lasik surgery or some other event, you must get your physical card updated and/or the restriction removed from your CDL.
If you have questions about how to do this, please contact the Safety Department or Human Resources Department.
Thank you and have a safe week,
