HAPPY HOLIDAYS:
It seems odd to couple Happy Holidays with a COVID reminder, but we feel it is very important to remind everyone that with the recent spike in cases and with flu season upon us, please remember all of things we need to be doing to help limit the spread of both Covid and the flu. Wearing our masks and social distancing have become our new way of life and have become habits already for most of us, however it seems we still struggle with staying home when we’re sick and that’s probably going to be the biggest factor in preventing the spread of illness whether it’s cold, flu or Covid.
One other thing we can all do is remember to stay safe and diligent in our personal lives as well – consider limiting social activities and avoid congregating with large groups of people – this is especially important as the cold weather forces us indoors and as Christmas and New Year’s is here!
How Covid-19 Spreads
As a Professional Driver, you might be exposed to the virus at your job when:
- In close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes or more) with truck stop attendants, store workers, dock workers, other Professional Drivers, or others with COVID-19.
- Touching or handling frequently touched items and then touching your face, mouth, nose, or eyes.
How To Protect Yourself And Others
- Stay home if you are having symptoms of COVID-19!
- Stay at least 6 feet away from dock workers, store workers, and others when possible.
- Wear a cloth mask in public, and at work, even when social distancing.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects or surfaces.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Do not touch your face, mouth, nose, or eyes. Cover your coughs and sneezes.
How To Cope With Stress
Mental health and emotional well-being are important parts of worker safety and health. The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges in the ways many people work and connect with others, which may raise feelings of stress, anxiety, or depression. It is important to pay attention to these in yourself and others – to help you manage these stresses during the Holidays and anytime throughout the year, Decker provides a free Employee Assistance Program to all employees. You may access the EAP by calling 800-854-1446 or online at www.lifebalance.net (user ID and password = lifebalance).
Please consider all of these tips and suggestions as you enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and good health and much happiness in 2021!
